Pilkington Glass House
+ Show
AROS were chosen from over 750 entrants as 2nd commendation in this popular international competition. The concept takes glass beyond current innovation. A central core uses recycled crushed glass as a hydroponic substrate with glass fibre surface mesh to create a vertical garden. Tending and maintaining the garden provides a therapeutic routine to daily life, an activity at the heart of the home. Vegetables can be grown at the lower [kitchen] levels of the house with decorative planting at the higher [living/sleeping] levels.
Enough food can be grown in 125 sq ft of hydroponic space to feed a person indefinitely.
